If you want recreation, canoing, kayaking, anglers or plain fishing Tims Ford Lake has it all. The many arms of water are often popular with people and fun. Tims is part of the Elk River and located here in Franklin County. Tims Ford is closely monitored by TVA making it clean, safe and friendly. The Dam was built to help with flood control primarily for Fayetteville Tn. Construction on the dam started in 1966 and was completed in 1970. The dam is 175 feet tall and 1,580 feet across.
There are many miles of shoreline to explore making Tims Ford popular with canoeist and kayakers. Boating is a large sport on the lake. There are several full service marinas on the lake and a couple even have boat rentals.
The shores of the lake are home to Bear Trace Golf Course and even home to a few very nice restaurants. There is lots to explore on the lake as well as in the nearby area. Shelbyville is the self proclaimed “Tennessee Walking Horse Capital of the World”, Lynchburg has Jack Daniels where you can get a tour. Huntsville, Ala is only 45 min away and you can visit the US Space and Rocket Center. Tims has 241 miles or shore line it has 10,700 acres of surface water and a average depth of 14 feet and more.
